So, I’ve come full circle. A whole year passed lightning fast. The end is here and now is that special time when one searches his very soul for lessons he’s learned, and I’ve learned! What started out shy, soon turned into passion. Developing the site and posting news proved to be lots of fun. Early on it became obvious that the whole endeavor held potential for building relationships one can cultivate to be strong and meaningful. Communication does this you know and does it well. During the countless posting hours, the sleepless nights, new people touched my life as I have touched theirs. Old, forgotten friendships were revived while new ones formed across the globe. Such a precious reward for a strenuous effort indeed! As an example it will suffice to say that I can never forget how it felt to touch base with this crazy Jap I’ve known in another life in London and with whom I haven’t spoken in almost 25 years. The sad event of Fukushima brought us together again, through this site here. Nor can I ever forget the, until recently perfect strangers to me, lovable elderly couple from the Bay Area. One other thing I discovered, to my great surprise, is that even in this day and age of “super egos”, “looking out for #1” attitudes, backstabbing tactics and of undervalued personal and family relationships, there are people out there who do care about things other than themselves. That makes a huge difference and in my honest opinion is our hope, maybe the only one, for the future. Having said that, I believe it’s clear I’m much richer a man now than I was a year ago, in knowledge, in feelings, in friends! All good things come to an end though and this change of guard in the union’s board is a chance for me to get new bearings, tackle new challenges. This amateur blogger’s posting days are over more or less. Much as I will miss this whole exchange of ideas, news, etc, the last thing left for me to do is to make my farewell:
- To my friends out there, old and new, your love, support and cooperation are things I’m grateful to be the recipient of. Take good care, we will be in touch.
- To the faithful readers out there, Thank You! Know that I have tried hard and put in many hours of work to keep you informed!
- To my dear colleagues, your work experience and some crucial suggestions made the site what it is. I hope that those who follow will continue to promote the relationship between our friends abroad and the personnel of this secretariat. The site is a living entity, an ongoing process towards its desired goal: To bring Greeks closer to one another!
- Last but not least, those that don’t like the aesthetics, the content of the site or finally the views expressed in it, please credit me with the fact that I received neither any complaints nor any suggestions.
Till we meet again, all the best.
Tim, out!
